A Marxian Analysis of the Crisis in Economic Crisis and Greece (Greek Language)
The collective volume Economic Crisis and Greece (Athens: Gutenberg, 2011 in Greek) is an initiative of the Greek Scientific Association of Political Economy and has been edited by Andriana Vlachou (Associate Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business), Nicholas Theocarakis (Assistant Professor at the National and Kapodistriako University) and Dimitris Milonakis (Associate Professor at the Crete University). The contributors challenge the orthodox Economics which is considered responsible for not being able to predict and explain the current financial and economic crisis. In particular, they analyze the international aspects of the crisis, the causes of the fiscal crisis of the Greek economy, the problems of the current account balances, the international competitiveness and the sectoral structure of the Greek economy, as well as the relation of the crisis of the Greek economy with the EMU and Greece’s acceptance to the Eurozone. The authors argue that the current neoliberal policies, which in part gave rise to the crisis, can not lead to an exit from it. They propose different explanations of the crisis and argue for different policies which are grounded in alternative critical schools of economic thought.
