Rollins College Lectures
Published on March 14, 2011
These presentations will focus on explaining how and why the ongoing economic crisis is splitting the US economy into 10-15% doing well and a vast majority of Americans facing ever harder times.. We will see how growing inequality of income helped produce the crisis. Then we will show how the government’s response – bailing out major banks, other financial companies and some major non-financial corporations – actually worsened the splitting. The other side of “recovery for the few” will turn out to be long-term decline for the many. In conclusion, we will demonstrate alternative responses that the government could and should have taken to overcome crisis and change our economy in a democratic way benefiting the majority.
