On what level do you think the mainstream media are responsible for maintaining the status quo of capitalism on a global level?
After the Argentinian nationalization of corporation Repsol, most prominent Western media strongly attacked Argentina. The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times declared their move as the "economic piracy" and the Economist suggested the exclusion of "pirate state" of the G20 and the introduction of visas for its citizens.
A similar thing happened before the elections in Greece, when the European newspapers like Der Spiegel openly insulted the political options that are committed against the austerity measures. On what level do you think the mainstream media are responsible for maintaining the status quo of capitalism on a global level?
The mainstream media are themselves part of mega-capitalist corporations and so serve themselves as well as other giant corporations. Their voices are increasingly shrill and strident because the movement in many parts of the world ignores and mocks them (as in Argentina, Greece, and elsewhere). They endorsed austerity and are now anxious about that. They worry about the direction of change in Europe and want to stop or reverse it and write, speak, and print accordingly.
